Week01 - Appreciating Context
What is meant by context? Context is the character and setting of the area within which a projected scheme will sit. It is its natural as well as human history;the forms of the settlements,buildings and spaces;its ecology and archaeology;its location,and the routes that pass through it.Context also includes people,the individuals living in or near an area and how communities are organised so that citizens become real participants in the projected development. The Week01 and week02 tasks for the students are to establish their basic knowledge and understanding about Kemang area as a context for the project01. The students will make an observation about kemang context through mapping and diagramming to illustrate the following aspects:

The first assignment of the studio/Project01 is to develop a hospitality program in Kemang area, Southern Jakarta. The students will have to choose site (5000-8000 sqm) in order to develop his/her proposed hospitality program.
Some constraints to be considered: BCR @50-60%, FAR @ 2 and maximum 4 storey (excluding 1 storey of basement). The program should be consisted of several masses (2 masses as minimum).

The submission of the first assignment of the studio/Project01 will be held on Monday, October 4, 2010 at 12.oo. And the Midterm presentation will be held on Wednesday, October 6, 2010 at 10.00.
